A Year in Review
By Alex Calloway (Racoon)
9/11/05

The 2005 Mariners aren't what we thought it was going to be. Were in last place and most of the muscle has been put into the minors, which is not a bad thing as long as we get players Hernandez from it. This year most of us (or at least me) thought this team would get awesome run support and tons of homers. Instead we have a total of 117 homers on this team (ranked 25th in the Majors), 578 runs batted in (23rd in the Majors), and 613 runs(22nd in the Majors). Making us at the bottom of the hitting charts in the Majors. Pitching however, is a bit better. With a ERA of 4.43 (ranked 17th the majors), 761 strikeouts (ranked 30th in the league), and a WHIP of 1.40 (ranked 21st in the majors), though even that is terrible. Pretty much a year that sucks. But with a wise spring and Felix starting for 30 games, there's a good chance this team can turn it around. Oddly enough, the only good thing is our DEFENSE! That’s right. Defense. Last I checked defense won championships. Anyway, the Mariners have a .986 (4th in the majors), 1,359 assists (ranked 26th), and 124 double plays (ranked 20th), and that's STILL not great. The team is bad, buts there’s an upside! With Texas going down hill and an easy schedule ahead for us like the Blue Jays, and the Tigers, we might just get 3rd place. Here are my top players in Hitting and Pitching.
